October 21, 2016 – Democratic candidate for U.S. Senate, Jim Barksdale was the clear winner over Senator Johnny Isakson in a debate sponsored by the Atlanta Press Club. During the debate, Jim stressed the need for greater accountability and Washington and that he has the toughness to stand up to the corporate interests that dominate Washington’s agenda.
Jim pledged to put middle class workers before corporate lobbyists and put people back at the center of Washington decision-making. He was clear that he was running to fix a broken and corrupt system that results in bad trade deals and an economy that benefits the wealthiest Americans and leaves the rest of us in the lurch.
In contrast Senator Isakson showed that he was out of touch and more interested in doing the work of the special interests in Washington than the people of Georgia. Senator Isakson’s refusal during the debate to rescind his endorsement for Donald Trump, despite Trump’s crude language about women and numerous accusations of sexual assaults, is an affront to every women and person of conscience in Georgia. Senator Isakson was unable to answer questions about his own similarities to Donald Trump, specifically his connection to racial discrimination and his association to Northside Realty. His non-answers show how out of touch he is from the people of Georgia. This is unacceptable and the voters of Georgia will make their decisions on November 8.
