Georgia’s Women Rally Around Jim Barksdale for Senate

October 19, 2016—Today the Jim Barksdale for Senate campaign proudly announced a slate of endorsements from women leaders across the state who know new leadership is needed in Washington.

“Senator Isakson’s record of voting against the interests of Georgia’s women demonstrates the implicit misogyny of his Country Club Republican mindset. Whether his votes against the Lily Ledbetter Fair Pay Act or against reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act, he’s repeatedly failed Georgia’s women in Washington,” said Jim Barksdale. “Even today, he continues his endorsement of Donald Trump despite Trump’s appalling rhetoric about women and nearly a dozen women leveling accusations of sexual assault. It’s clear Senator Isakson doesn’t respect Georgia’s women or prioritize the issues that matter to them. I’m honored to have the support of these influential women leaders, and I’m looking forward to being a true advocate of Georgia’s women in the US Senate.”

Endorsers (in alphabetical order) include:

  • Stacey Abrams, House Minority Leader for the Georgia General Assembly and Representative for the 89th House District
  • Kathy Adams, President of Georgia Federation of Democratic Women
  • Stephanie Davis, Former Head of Atlanta Women’s Foundation
  • Dee Dawkins-Haigler, State Representative for House District 91 and Chair of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus
  • Melita Easters, Founding Chair and Executive Director of WIN List
  • Shirley Franklin, Former Mayor of Atlanta
  • Elena Parent, Georgia State Senator of District 42
  • Adrienne White, Chair of Board of Directors for WIN List and Vice Chair of Board of Directors for Red Clay Democrats
  • Nikema Williams, First Vice Chair of the Democratic Party of Georgia

“I’m proud to stand beside Jim Barksdale,” said Melita Easters, Founding Chair and Executive Director of WIN List. “Senator Isakson’s out-of-touch policies are from a different century. He has failed women time and time again in the Senate, and it’s a time for a change in Washington. That change is Jim Barksdale.”

“The women of Georgia need a Senator in Washington who will stand with them,” said Kathy Adams, President of the Georgia Federation of Democratic Women. “Senator Isakson has consistently shown that he puts the interests of his wealthy donors ahead of voting for bills promising equal pay for equal work, protecting women against domestic violence, and expanding access to healthcare options for women. When Jim Barksdale is elected, Georgia’s women will have a dedicated advocate in Washington for their priorities.”
